Gallery Night - Providence, RI

I've always wanted to go to a Gallery Night in Providence, RI. However, since they're held during the week (usually the third Thursday of every month), I've never made it to one.

Providence has a wonderful artistic community from its numerous galleries to the Rhode Island School of Design. Gallery Night allows individuals to share an evening with a tour guide discussing specific pieces of artwork or just hop on a free "art bus" to go from gallery to gallery.

The next Gallery Night will be held tomorrow - Thursday, September 15 - from 5 - 9 p.m.

Mystic, CT ... Try #2!

About a month ago, we ventured to Mystic, CT for our annual visit to the outdoor art festival. Let's just say ... it was hot.

So, when E suggested we check out Taste Of Mystic yesterday, I figured it was a perfect opportunity to give a Mystic festival another try. We weren't disappointed ... and the weather was great.

We bought 20 tickets (each ticket is $1.00) and started by browsing all the restaurants. Most entrees were 4-6 tickets while appetizers, desserts, soda and water were around 2 tickets each.

E started with Pad Thai, Fried Rice, and Chicken on a Stick from Thai Jasmine. E never had Thai food before, and his first try was a hit. He especially loved the rice.

I had a Portobello with Alouette Cheese from Captain Daniel Packer Inne which was amazing. It is included on their restaurant's menu with the following description: "A PACKER INNE ORIGINAL. A large Portobello cap grilled over natural charcoal, topped with Alouette cheese and seasoned breadcrumbs. Baked golden brown and served with an intensely flavored chive infused olive oil." They were even kind enough to include a copy of the recipe at their booth, so I'll try to recreate the wonderful dish at home.

E's second selection was Orange Chipotle BBQ Beef Ribs from Seamen's Inne. E declared his ribs were good but messy. He'll stick to brisket from now on - it's easier to eat!

I chose Chicken Biryani from Taste of India, and it, too, was a good choice. The chicken was tender, and the spices were just right.

After browsing the desserts, we decided to finish off our meal simply by splitting an Iced Cappuccino from Tim Hortons.

Taste of Mystic continues today from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
